Along with the Michelin Guide New York announcements yesterday, Esquire gave out their own awards last night at a party in New York City. Awards were given out for the Top 20 Best New Restaurants for 2008, which included Daniel Boulud’s Bar Boulud in New York’s Upper West Side, and Luce Restaurant in San Francisco’s South of Market district. Party goers were also on edge to find out who Esquire selected as Chef of the Year and Restaurant of the Year 2008.

Congratulations to chef Dominique Crenn of Luce who won Esquire’s Chef of the Year, and Laurent Gras’ L20 Restaurant in Chicago which was named Restaurant of the Year.

To find out the rest of Esquire’s 2008 Restaurants of the Year, check out the November issue, which goes on sale this week. Halle Berry graces the cover, so I’m sure you will not miss it.

Congratulations to chef Dominique Crenn. On a recent visit to Luce my group and I were so impressed with her cuisine. She is a welcome back addition to the San Francisco dining scene.

Great to hear that a female chef won this award. The industry seems to be somewhat male dominated although it looks like San Francisco has a large share of recognized female chefs w/ Alice Waters, Nancy Oakes, Judy Rodgers to name a few. Congrats to chef Crenn!

The husband and I ate at Luce the other night and Dominique came to our table and was so gracious. Dinner was outstanding.
