Milka Chocolates and the Milka Cow

Milka Chocolates

Take out the "L" and it's the Purple Mika Cow!

My first stop in Europe was a layover at the Frankfurt airport. That was definitely not one of my favorite airports in Germany in comparison to the ultra-modern Munich airport, but they did have a giant purple Milka cow which brought a smile to my face.

Funny thing is that there have been several times in my life that people who met me said, "Oh your name is like that chocolate". Well, pretty close I guess, minus the "L", but I love chocolates, and I've been known to graze like a cow, so I guess that was a good comparison.

Milka Chocolates are all over Europe. The company was founded in 1901 in Switzerland and the chocolates are now produced in a chocolate factory in the Austrian town of Bludenz near the Swiss border. Milka is owned and distributed by Kraft Foods and is actually Kraft's best selling chocolate. The name “MILKA” consists of the words Milch and Kakao (Milk and Cacao in German).  I particularly fancy the bars with the giant chunks of whole hazelnuts….mmmm

I didn’t see an answer to Rianne’s question…. I also would like to know – Where can I find Milka chocolates in the USA?!

Would be especially helpful if the location is in the San Jose/San Francisco area!

    Thank you!

    Hello Ratna,

Unfortuately, they are not as readily available in Asian or the Northern America. I usually pick them up while traveling in Europe.

Hi all! I’ve bought Milka in the US at Target and Walgreens (in CA). So good!
If it’s okay, I’d like to link this blog to our new Twitter? Safe future travels! 🙂

Milka cocholate got it’s name from a famous operetic soprano of the time Milka Trnina,as the founder was a big fan.
