Lers Ros Thai – Another reason to LOVE San Francisco

Oh, Lers Ros…I think I love you. Not only do you offer one of the most creative and unique Thai menus in San Francisco, but you are incredibly affordable, offer professional service with a smile, and are open daily from 11 am til' midnight. And let's not forget the bonus points you earn for free delivery and convenient street parking.

Thai Herb Sausage w/ginger, peanuts, red onions, lemons & chili (#4)

When choosing a restaurant to celebrate my most recent birthday with an eclectic group of friends (tech geek, michelin star chef, fashionista, ceo, pregnant mama, wine connoisseur, vegetarian girl, well-done meat eater…), I was overwhelmed with choices. After all, San Francisco is a city with an infinite number of dining options and I wanted a spot where everyone would enjoy themselves…and the food. From the neighborhood hole in the wall, to the celebrity chef dining room, to the recently opened hot spot, to the classic San Francisco establishment, there are an endless amount of alternatives.

In the end, I narrowed it down and chose Lers Ros Thai in the sometimes sketch, never boring Tenderloin district. It ended up to a be a very good choice. After all, Thai is one of those cuisines that can accomodate many palates and the prices at Lers Ros are so rock-bottom fantastic that you can try a bunch of dishes and even if you aren't crazy for a particular one, it's not a deal breaker.

Shredded green papaya salad w chili, tomatoes, peanuts & grilled prawns (#13)

Just this month, I've been back to Lers Ros at least seven times and have yet to even scratch the surface of this 110 plus item menu. A few initial standouts include the roasted Thai Herb Sausage appetizer served with peanuts, ginger, sliced lemon, chili and red onions (#4) and the Duck Larb with hints of lime and chili powder (#25). Friends also loved the Stir-Fried Crispy Pork Belly with basil leaves (#62) and if you like your mouth on fire, make sure to try the Shredded Green Papaya salads that come with either raw crabs, grilled prawns or salted eggs (#12-14). Lers Ros also excels in the popular (standard on every Thai menu) items such as Tom Yum Koong, Pad Thai and Curries. Their complementing drink menu offers non-alcoholic options such as Longan, Coconut and Chrysanthemum while their alcohol menu features beer, wine and sake. I'm inclined to pair Southeast Asian cuisine with German Rieslings, so was delighted to see a nice Johann Peter Reinert 2009 Riesling feinherb on the wine list.

If you haven't made a Lers Ros visit yet, I highly recommend you do so soon. If you are already a Lers Ros groupie, which I know there are many out there, please make sure to share some of your favorite must-have dishes. Who knows, with the amount of time I've been spending there lately, there's a remarkably good chance we'll be dining under the same roof very soon.
