Brief Drink Blurb:  Blue Bottle may be just around the corner, but Slanted Door’s fresh brewed Hong Kong Milk Tea is an ideal caffeine fix for those with a sweet tooth.

The Drink: If it were up to me and many others, condensed milk would be a food group. Silky smooth, rich-tasting, and sugary sweet, Slanted Door mixes it with a special blend of black tea leaves and hot water to serve their version of Hong Kong Milk Tea. Colorful individual teapots of this decadent tasting tea are a favorite among guests with dessert, or during Slanted Door’s afternoon tea. With Hong Kong formerly under British rule, it’s no surprise that the Chinese developed the habit of combining milk and tea.  Crediting my part-English roots, I too have always preferred my black tea with milk enjoying the combination of texture and flavors.

Key Ingredients:  black tea leaves, condensed milk, hot water

The Place:  Waterfront views….check. Distinctive Vietnamese cuisine….check.  Impressive wine and cocktails….check. Slanted Door has it all. It’s no wonder that this wildly popular Ferry Building restaurant with the panoramic views of the glistening-chilly water and iconic Bay Bridge is one of the toughest reservations in the Bay Area. Chef/Owner Charles Phan has built a solid following growing Slanted Door from his original neighborhood Valencia Street location to the top grossing restaurant in San Francisco.

Other menu musts:  Fresh spring rolls, Shaking beef, Daikon rice cakes, and the list goes on…

Extra facts:  If you don’t have time for a sit-down meal at Slanted Door, visit there take-out window, Out the Door which is located just around the corner from the Ferry Building restaurant. Here you will find some of their most popular prepared dishes along with cooking kits to personally create the dishes in your own home kitchen.

You can also find Slanted Door’s Hong Kong Milk Tea at their other Out the Door locations on Bush Street and Westfield Mall.
