Michelin Guide 2017 North America Announcement Dates

Michelin Guide 2017 Dates North America

Fall is here and that means it’s time for the North American Michelin Guides to soon be announced and released. This year marks a very exciting time since there will be a new U.S. city added to the red guide map with a brand new guide being introduced for Washington D.C. Other current cities include San Francisco, Chicago and New York.

Here are the 2017 Michelin Guide North America announcement dates:

Washington D.C. – October 13, 2016

San Francisco – October 25, 2016

Chicago – November 2, 2016

New York – November 17, 2016

Another year, and another set of MICHELIN stars has been descended upon New York City. In the three-star realm, all six of last year’s restaurants remained in top standing including one of my favorite NYC meals from last year at Jean-Georges. In the two-star category, the Modern is the newest addition to rise from its one star in the 2015 Guide. There were nine additional New York restaurants added to the one-star grouping. FOUR Magazine launches USA Edition

The inaugural Northern American print issue of FOUR Magazine, which is currently available in Germany, Italy and the UK, will debut on June 16 here in the United States. Why the name Four? In each bi-annual issue, the fine-dining food magazine focuses on four of the leading, cutting-edge chefs in the industry. The first American-focused FOUR will showcase recognizable chefs from the East to West Coasts including two current three-star MICHELIN chefs. Daniel Humm (Eleven Madison Park, NYC), Grant Achatz (Alinea Restaurant, Chicago), Dominique Crenn (Atelier Crenn, San Francisco) and Blaine Wetzel (The Willows Inn, Lumni Island) are the fab four featured in the new issue. I’ve read each of the interviews and they are great reads.

In the first issue of FOUR, you’ll find out how Miles Davis has inspired Chef Daniel Humm and his team at Eleven Madison Park. You’ll also learn how childhood walks through the forest with her father influenced Chef Dominique Crenn’s cuisine at Atelier Crenn. Chef Grant Achatz will discuss his desire for change and the need to evolve, and you’ll become more familiar with Blaine Wetzel – the chef who helped give a restaurant on the Pacific’s San Juan Islands archipelago a brand name.

In addition, FOUR will highlight the popularity of dim-sum style eateries, cool cocktails from Manhattan, a visit to Blackberry Farm, Tennessee, and an interview with FOUR North America’s Rising Star, Sean Brock.

Avec Eric – Perfect Pairings w/Chef Eric Ripert & Sommelier Aldo Sohm

Below is a previous post we featured on the show, Avec Eric. Recently, it won a James Beard Foundation Award for best Televison Program. If you haven't had the chance to check this wonderful broadcast out yet, we highly suggest it. Congrats to Eric Ripert and team for a job well done!

Chef Eric Ripert of New York's Le Bernadin recently launched the second season of his web series, Avec Eric. This time it's Avec Eric Perfect Pairings – a 13 video series showcasing the delectable recipes of Chef Ripert paired with wines recommended by Le Bernadin's wine director Aldo Sohm, named "Best Sommelier in the World" by the Worldwide Sommelier Association. These short, but informatively sweet 2-3 minute videos are focused on dispelling common myths about wine pairings such as Red Wine Always Pairs Better with Red Meat and White Wine Always Goes with Fish.

Bar Boulud – New York

Located across from the Lincoln Center in New York’s Upper West Side, Bar Boulud is famed Chef Daniel Boulud’s chic, yet more casual wine bistro serving comfort-style food, charcuterie, and a wonderful wine list consisting of selections from the Rhone Valley and Burgundy regions of France.

Lucky timing would have it that I would end up in New York during NYC Restaurant Week. Unfortunately, I didn’t take full advantage of the incredible dining deals since I was only in New York for the very tail end of this special three-week offer where one can graze on lunch for $24.07 and dinner for $35.00 at acclaimed eateries such as South Gate, Dovetail, Benoit, Oceana, Gotham Bar and Grill and Nobu. I did however get to enjoy one meal during NYC Restaurant Week and that was here at Bar Boulud. I’m often skeptical about the “special” menus restaurants offer during these special dining weeks, since it’s often not an indication of the full experience of dining at the restaurant a la carte, or tasting, but I must say that Bar Boulud definitely delivered. The portions were generous and flavorful, service was knowledgeable and professional, and the dishes were satisfying and well-prepared.

Bar Boulud was the perfect spot to dine and catch up with a close friend I hadn’t seen since she moved to NYC. I’ve been to many of Daniel Boulud’s establishments and Bar Boulud was another spot I will revisit. I often get cravings for the succulent Coq au vin, and the excellent charcuterie.

When the weather is nice, Bar Boulud makes a perfect outdoor dining spot to people watch while enjoying some perfectly-paired pâtés and terrines with a well-matched red.

The Spotted Pig – New York

After hearing all the hype, I was greatly anticipating a visit to The Spotted Pig in the West Village. Tops on the must-eat list was the much raved about Sheep’s Ricotta Gnudi with Brown Butter and Sage, but unfortunately the Sunday post-brunch menu was limited. I knew I should have possibly waited a few more hours to hit up the restaurant for dinner rather than an afternoon brunch with friends, but with limited time, and my evenings booked, here I was at a late Sunday brunch at  New York’s Spotted Pig. We ordered chef April Bloomfield’s infamous Chargrilled Burger with Roquefort Cheese and Shoestring Fries – definitely my favorite item we ate during our meal. We also sampled a few gastropub bar snacks including the Chicken Liver Toast and Deviled Eggs followed by several other plates.
