Better late than never, but here are some pics from the Rue Magazine anniversary party at H.D. Buttercup, San Francisco. Food trucks, several bars, and a chic set of attendees mingled and struck a pose in the photo booth, all while surrounded by eclectic interior pieces in SF's SoMa neighborhood.

While in New York, I spotted these creatively-carved pumpkins by artist Hugh McMahon in Chelsea Market. In addition to featuring familiar Food Network stars, there were political pumpkins in the likes of Bush and Obama on display. Keeping with the tradition of Halloween, these impressive pieces of art weren't only frightening and spooky, but colorful and creepy.

One of the most colorful pics I captured this weekend with my new iPhone4S, was at the Knork booth at the inaugural Los Angeles Food and Wine Grand Tasting event.
Knork is an innovative idea that combines a fork and knife in one. The flatware comes in a variety of finishes from stainless steel to plastic. The colorful ensemble pictured above is part of the dishwasher safe, outdoor version. A pack of 12 comes in an assortment of colors and runs only $11.99. Great for picnics and barbecues!

With the holidays, not approaching, but literally RIGHT HERE, I know there are a ton of events, soirees, and get-togethers you must attend to, but here's another one to add to the list. If you are in San Francisco and want to chill and hang out with some local artists, DJ's and fashion designers, all while getting your holiday shop on, come check out the Chillin' Holiday Show tomorrow at Mezzanine.
I will be at the Fashion Bliss table, so drop by and make sure to say "Hello". Past events do get VERY crowded with long lines, so be an early bird and get there early. Event is $10 at the door and you must be 21 and over to attend. There won't be any food at this event, but they will have a bar and lots of fun fashion.
Now here's a handbag the men in your life won't go complaining about…as long as they get a piece (of the cake, that is). This absolutely gorgeous zebra-print purse from Neiman Marcus is decadent luxe at its finest, with gold hardware and chocolate-brown leather like straps. Almost too stunning to eat, this edible chocolate cake is layered with caramel toffee buttercream and chocolate buttercream. Ooh la la.
This chocolate-couture, makes a stylish statement dessert for the uber-chic crowd and serves 10-12. With a price tag of $235, that roughly comes out to around $24 a person. And believe me, you aren't going to find another purse even worth looking at for that price at Neiman's, so indulge and save the baking for somebody else.
Available exclusively at Neiman Marcus HERE
Here are a few things you may or may not know about me… I'm a sucker for vintage couture, fresh baked donuts, and colorful animation, so although late to the party, I finally MadMen'd myself last night and boy was it a frolicking, fun five minutes…well maybe I'm slightly exaggerating a bit, but I did release a few chuckles. It probably doesn't really even look like me, but hey, I have a glazed donut in hand while rocking a tangerine patterned Pucci-esque dress with head to toe Chanel accessories while on a flight traveling somewhere, who knows where, but somewhere so this is the closest to 60's Mad Men Mika you will get. Hope you all have a swell day and if you need a little pick-me-up or an amusing break, go MadMenYourself.
If you are in the Los Angeles area and love food and art, I recommend you check out this wonderful exhibit running through June 12th. “Palate,” is a group exhibition of internationally lauded artists in which food takes its rightful place inside the gallery.
Curated by Zio Fulcher, “Palate” features new works and installations by Clare Crespo, Jeph Gurecka, Scott Hove, Tamara Kostianovsky, Alan Macdonald, James Reynolds (artwork pictured above), Martha Rich and Jeff Vespa at Scion’s 4,500-square foot Installation Space in Culver City.
Artwork by Tamara Kostianovsky
“Palate,” which means the sense of taste, but also references an artist’s palette, will showcase a wide array of food-related art from Martha Rich’s feminine, cake-laden illustrations to Alan Macdonald’s classically rendered paintings of pilgrims that feature the unlikely additions of grocery bags, baked beans and chips. “Palate” will also include James Reynolds’ series of photographs documenting Death Row inmates’ last meal requests, as well as Jeff Vespa’s giant Polaroids of fast food burgers. Scott Hove’s monstrous cake sculptures will be on display, as will Tamara Kostianovsky’s realistic sculptures of slabs of meat, which she makes with articles of clothing. Clare Crespo will crochet a smorgasbord of fun foods, and Jeph Gurecka will build an installation out of bread he bakes himself that explores the idea of food as sustenance.
from the Candy Wrapper Museum
The show will also include a large exhibit of retro candy wrappers, courtesy of Darlene Lacey of the Candy Wrapper Museum, a vintage cookbook library, and a wall of vibrantly colored hard-to-find sodas.
